REPORT WRITING

AN INTRODUCTION

Report Writing is an important genre of Composition. It refers to the task of making a formal or official statement about a fact or news in order to inform it to all in general. It is said to be the act of the Journalists. Recently in the school/ college syllabi, Report Writing, as a branch of Composition, has been prescribed. In Report Writing the students are taught to write a report (special information) on some specific events or facts like festivals, games and sports, accident, meeting etc. In the examination, some outlines are given to the students as hints and the students are asked to prepare a report basing on the given hints.

There are some specific rules for writing a good report, as-

1. The report must be given a Title (Heading) which should bear the gist of the fact or events.

2. It should bear the name of the place where the report is issued.

‘3. The Date on which the report is issued must be mentioned.

4. An Introduction is not necessary for the report to be published in a newspaper. The fact should be produced realistically and directly.

5The report should be limited to the given outlines.

6. The report should be developed logically in accordance with the order of points in the outlines.

7. All the hints given in the outlines should be covered and no points should be omitted.

8. The language of a report should be simple, direct and comprehensive.  Any kind of prolixity and ambiguity should be avoided.

9. In the case of writing a long report, the paragraphs should be logically arranged so that they produce a cohesive meaning.

Grow More Tress

We often take pride by saying that we live in a highly civilized world. Various scientific discoveries have made our life easier, happier and more comfortable. But hardly have we realized that with the development of our lifestyle, the natural environment is degrading rapidly. We feel that the earth is going to be warmer and drought has become to be a common phenomenon. Resultantly, the flora and fauna are on the way of extinction. Though late, we have come to realize that for all these degradations of our environment, the reckless cutting of trees is responsible. Scientists say that to save the natural environment of the earth there is a key means and that is growing more and more trees. Trees don’t only keep our environment in balance but also they provide us with shade, food, wood etc. They also add beauty and charm to our life and environment.

So let us promise that everybody of us would plant at least a tree every week like a responsible good citizen of the land and thus to make the earth a better place for all. (By Nirala Haloi)
